In the United States, The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is an independent U.S. Government agency that regulates interstate and international communications by radio, television, wire, satellite, and cable in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and U.S. territories. The FCC is overseen by Congress and is responsible for implementing and enforcing America’s communications laws and regulations.

In partnership with the USTTI, the FCC will deliver two webinars on June 29 and July 1. These programs will be delivered by senior officials from the Commission. The webinar on June 29 is entitled “Technical Standards in Telecommunications” and will give an overview of the technical standards that support the development of telecommunication technologies. The program on July 1 is entitled “Low Power Devices” and will will discuss the FCC regulatory approach related to “low power” communication devices, and its impact on the recent developments of wireless technologies.

Alfonso G. Tarditi

Alfonso G. Tarditi completed his academic education (B.S. and M.S., 1985) and Electrical Engineering Doctorate, 1990) at the University of Genoa, (Genoa, Italy).   After a post-doc at UC Berkley (Berkley, CA, USA), he focused his research activity on experimental and computational physics,  electromagnetics, and electromagnetic compatibility for the U.S. fusion energy  program, NASA, electric power industry, and U.S. Department of Energy laboratories.  More recently he joined the Federal Communications Commission, Office of Engineering and Technology (OET), as Chief of the Technical Research Branch at the OET Laboratory in Columbia, Maryland.

George Tannahill

George Tannahill is Senior Electronics Engineer, Technical Research Branch (TRB), of the Federal Communications Commission’s Laboratory, located under the FCC Office of Engineering and Technology. His areas of responsibility include: Equipment Authorization, CAB (TCB and Test Firm) accreditation, Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs), and FCC’s Equipment Authorization Electronic Filing System (EAS).

James Szeliga

James Szeliga has served as the Chief of the Customer Service Branch (for Equipment Authorization activities) of the Federal Communications Commission’s Laboratory Division (Office of Engineering and Technology) for fifteen years.   With 35 years of career experience in the telecommunications industry,   he has also served as vice president of engineering and general manager supporting and developing air traffic control systems, government microwave digital radio systems, TDM/TDMA radio systems, spread spectrum, and digital subscriber line technologies.  Additionally, he worked as Founder and Chief Operating Officer of an entity providing IP Voice, Internet, and video services over fiber networks.   Mr. Szeliga holds an undergraduate degree in Electronic Technology and a Master’s degree in Science and Technology.

Like previous courses, participants will have the opportunity to not only listen and digest the information from presenters, but also ask questions in the Q&A section.
