USTTI Cybersecurity and Public Safety Communications Webinars

In collaboration with Microsoft and The Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the USTTI will offer webinars on Tuesday September 8th and Thursday September 10th addressing Cybersecurity and Public Safety Communications.

The Session on September 8th with Microsoft will explore several key attributes of national strategies for cybersecurity and use examples from national strategies around the world and from key multinational organizations like the ITU, to illustrate both the ways in which policies can strengthen a nation’s cybersecurity, as well as the ways they can hinder other goals, if they are not carefully constructed. The focus of the session will be on identifying national strategies that balance security objectives with key economic considerations and provide clear, actionable guidance to both government and industry actors, as well as for citizens.

The FCC webinar on Thursday September 10th will cover the FCC’s role in regulating communications technology that is used to support public safety and emergency response. Topics covered will include the nation’s emergency calling (911) system, radio communications and spectrum use by public safety entities, provision of public alerts and warnings by emergency authorities over broadcast media and wireless networks, and protecting the resiliency of communications infrastructure in hurricanes and other major disasters.
