USTTI September Update
September 11, 2008
Second Trimester Recap
During the Northern Hemisphere's summer months of June, July and August, USTTI conducted our second trimester of courses. Topics on Rural Connectivity, Management Techniques in the Changing Telecommunications Environment, Broadcast and Competition Policy were all discussed in 24 diverse course offerings. To date, we have received 9,716 applications and trained 237 women and men from 70 developing nations. The third trimester will see very popular course offerings focusing on Satellite Communications, Disaster Communications Management, Internet Governance and many others. If you have not done so already, we encourage you to submit your applications for the final courses of the 2008 training year as soon as possible.
Wireless Communications Sequence
The sixteen USTTI scholars who attended Intel’s recently completed M8-233, “The Wireless Broadband Revolution: Wi-Fi and WiMAX: the Technical, Business, and Spectrum Policy Ramifications in the Global Marketplace,” training course were briefed by Dr. Rama K. Shukla, Vice President, Mobility Group, Director, WiMAX Program Office for Intel Corporation. During his briefing, Dr. Shukla shared his thoughts on where wireless communications is headed and the important role it can play in our daily lives. He also answered several questions on how and why Intel is so passionate about the WiMAX technology and where he sees mobile WiMAX heading in the future.
Welcome Ms. Angela Wunderli
The USTTI is very proud to welcome our newest Curriculum Coordinator, Ms. Angela Wunderli. Angela recently graduated from The George Washington University where she studied Business and Finance. During her time at GWU, she was captain of the Varsity Women’s Crew and also took part in a study abroad program in Australia. We are excited to have her on board and know that her outgoing personality and business acumen will make her a great addition to the USTTI team.
Back to School…
September is the time when children in the United States, and several other countries around the world, head back to school following summer vacation. While some students wish for an endless summer, the brisk autumn breeze carries others to their classrooms with new school supplies and the desire to excel in their studies. The excitement of bonding with old classmates and meeting new teachers is accompanied by the anticipation and anxiety of the unknown that lies ahead. We wish all students the best of luck as they begin another exciting year of studies.
