In addition, we have received 6,544 applications from 121 nations. Second trimester courses are filling-up rapidly and sponsors have begun reviewing applications for the third trimester. USTTI Wireless Communications Training Sequence
USTTI is gearing up for our annual Wireless Communications training sequence. This year’s sequence will include training sessions from four different USTTI Board Member companies: “Introduction to the IP Multimedia Subsystem,” sponsored by Alcatel-Lucent; “A Comprehensive Review of the Mobile Communications Industry Focusing on Technologies for 3G and 4G Wireless Systems,” sponsored by AT&T: “IMT (3G/4G) Mobile Broadband and Mobile TV,” sponsored by QUALCOMM Incorporated; and “The Wireless Broadband Revolution: Wi-Fi and WiMAX: the Technical, Business, and Spectrum Policy Ramifications in the Global Marketplace,” sponsored by Intel Corporation. While orientation for these courses is not until August 11, 2008, our sponsors have already begun reviewing applications and we strongly urge anyone interested in attending one or more of these sessions to apply immediately.
USTTI Scholars meet QUALCOMM Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board
The sixteen USTTI scholars who attended the recently completed M8-127, “IMT (3G/4G) Mobile Broadband and Mobile TV,” training course were briefed by Dr. Irwin Mark Jacobs, Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board and former Chief Executive Officer of QUALCOMM Incorporated. During his briefing, Dr. Jacobs shared his thoughts on where wireless communications is headed and the important role it can play in our daily lives. He also answered several questions on how and why QUALCOMM was founded and where he sees the company heading in the future. A photo of Dr. Jacob’s addressing the group can be found in the “Training” section of USTTI’s photo gallery.
USTTI- Silicon Flatirons Partnership
USTTI has launched a training partnership with Silicon Flatirons to offer one of USTTI’s bedrock courses, “Managing Effectively in the Changing Telecommunications Environment.” Silicon Flatirons Executive Director, Phil Weiser and world renowned spectrum management guru Dale Hatfield are developing an intensive one week training for USTTI scholars to be held at the University of Colorado’s main campus. This course, scheduled to take place July 21-25, will be conducted as part of our Management Training Sequence and will provide insights into the nature of ongoing technological changes and regulatory reforms.
The USTTI will be closed on Monday May 26, 2008 to honor Memorial Day. Formerly known as Decoration Day, this U.S. holiday began in 1866 to commemorate Union Soldiers who died in the American Civil War. After World War I the holiday became known as Memorial Day and was expanded to include those who died in any war or military action involving U.S. soldiers. Today, families and friends of those who died while serving in the military use this holiday to attend special church services or ceremonies held at war memorials around the country. In addition to being a day of remembrance, Memorial Day also serves as the unofficial start of summer in the United States and is a time for picnics, family get-togethers, and sporting events.
