2015 USTTI Course Catalog
The staff of the USTTI is beginning the process of working with course sponsors and volunteer trainers to finalize the course curriculum for 2015. We expect to post the 2015 training curriculum on the USTTI website in early December, after which time you will be able to submit an online application for the tuition-free courses that will be offered in 2015.
Special Pre-Plenipot workshop for African leaders
The USTTI recently completed a three-day seminar in Washington, DC for African leaders planning to attend the International Telecommunications Union's (ITU) 2014 Plenipotentiary conference (PP-14) in Busan, South Korea. This interactive seminar addressed important PP-14 issues and provided an important opportunity for stakeholders from Africa and the United States to discuss their goals and concerns regarding the PP-14. The USTTI received valuable support for this program from the U.S. Department of State, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) of the U.S. Department of Commerce, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). USTTI corporate Board members who participated in the workshop included Verizon, Ericsson, AT&T, Intel, Intelsat, Google, Cisco and Inmarsat.

The USTTI will host a luncheon reception for USTTI alumni at the ITU's 2014 Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-14) in Busan, South Korea. The reception will be held in Hera Hall at the Busan Centum Hotel on Tuesday, October 28 from 12:30 - 2:30 PM. We welcome all USTTI alumni participating in PP-14 to attend the luncheon reception. Curriculum Coordinator Mike Beirne Departing USTTI
Curriculum Coordinator Mike Beirne will be leaving the USTTI at the end of 2014 after five years with the program. Mike recently graduated with honors from the Catholic University of America's Columbus School of Law, where he also earned a certificate from the Columbus School's Institute for Communications Law Studies. Mike's replacement will be Patrick Sutter, a very able graduate of Holy Cross College in Worcester, MA. We will miss Mike, but he is moving on to a very promising future.
USTTI Chairman Gardner Authors Another Book
In 2002, Ambassador Gardner wrote a book which documented the little known civil rights crusade of the 33rd President of the U.S., Harry S. Truman. Truman is remarkable in terms of civil rights because he was raised in a racist western Missouri family and he was the only modern American President who merely had a high school education. Besides these short comings, Ambassador Gardner documented, with a 600 footnoted book, that Truman was the pioneering civil rights President of the 20th century in the United States. The book was awarded the Henry Adams Prize by the archivists and federal historians who make up the Society for History in the Federal Government.
Ambassador Gardner's second book is entitled King of Sprinkler Lane-A Charmed Life. It is an unconventional memoir that touches on a wide variety of subjects including the stormy ITU Plenipotentiary Conference in Kenya in 1982. In this part of the book, the launching of the USTTI, more than 32 years ago, is discussed. Anyone who wants to learn more about this book can go to http://www.ambassadorgardner.com/.
