Senior FCC Staffer, Bryan Tramont, Addresses a USTTI Spectrum Group
Bryan Tramont, Senior Legal Advisor to FCC Commissioner Kathleen Abernathy, visited the USTTI on Monday, April 1, to address a group about the challenges of spectrum management and provide an overview of the FCC while they were at the USTTI 's Washington, DC headquarters for the first day of their training program. His position in the Commissioner's office gives him an insider's perspective on the importance of effective spectrum policy - a perspective that he was able to share with this group of 26 spectrum policy-makers from the developing world.

USTTI Internet Group Visits the Sites of Washington, DC
USTTI Senior Curriculum Coordinator Renee Mantei escorted a group of 12 Internet technical and policy experts from 9 developing countries on a tour of the U.S. Library of Congress and the Supreme Court, as part of their orientation in Washington, DC. Cultural exchange and exposure to important political landmarks are often a part of the USTTI training experience.

USTTI, FCC and Comsearch host a group of Spectrum Management Leaders
For the past week, the small office of the USTTI has been bustling with 25 government officials who are involved in managing and monitoring the spectrum in 19 developing countries. The group is participating in an intensive training program, M2-107, "Spectrum Management in the Civil Sector," sponsored by the Federal Communications Commission and Comsearch. This week the group will be traveling around the DC area on informative site visits pertaining to this exciting field.

USTTI Internet Scholars visit AOL Headquarters
A group of 14 Internet professionals visited AOL's Dulles, Virginia facility this past week as part of their course, "Internet Public Policy." Exposure to high-tech corporate or government facilities is a cornerstone of USTTI programs and provides our participants with an important hands-on training experience. AOL Time Warner Inc. is represented on the USTTI Board of Directors by Lisa Barry, Senior Vice President, International Public Policy.

14 Graduate from Nortel Networks' Internet Policy Course
This past Friday, 14 scholars successfully completed an intensive seminar, "Internet Regulatory and Trade Policy," sponsored by Nortel Networks. Julie Hedlund, Nortel's Director of Global Government Relations, International Policy, led the 14 technical and policy experts from 10 countries in an informative dialogue on Internet policy issues. The group participated in round table discussions, role plays, and other interactive exchanges. Greg Farmer, Senior Vice President, Global Government Relations and International Trade, represents Nortel Networks on the USTTI Board.

The USTTI continues to receive a steady flow of applications via fax and email for its 2002 training year. So far, we have received 5,467 for the 883 training slots available this year.
