Internet Governance Forum "Zero Day" Workshop with Microsoft
The USTTI will host a half-day course on "National Cybersecurity Policy: Balancing Risk and Innovation," at the Ninth Annual Internet Governance Forum (IGF) Meeting in Istanbul, Turkey. The course will be held on Monday, September 1st (Zero Day), from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Microsoft Executive Briefing Center in Istanbul. The discussion will introduce key concepts and principles intended to assist countries in crafting cybersecurity strategies and policies

Numbers/Call for Applications
To date, in 2014, the USTTI has graduated 220 scholars from 52 developing countries. So far this year, the USTTI has conducted training on critical ICT topics including Spectrum Management, Cybersecurity, Mobile Broadband, Rule of Law and ICT Management. USTTI Board Members (AT&T, Cisco Systems Inc., Ericsson, FCC, GSM Association, IBM, Intel Corporation, Internet Society, Microsoft Corporation, NTIA, QUALCOMM Incorporated and Verizon) from government and industry and their volunteer trainers have conducted 33 courses during our first two trimesters, growing the USTTI Alumni network to 9,133 scholars.
Looking ahead, the USTTI's third trimester will begin in September with the second iteration of our Cybersecurity and ICT Policy training sequence. Later in the month, the USTTI will offer two courses covering techniques and strategies for Spectrum Monitoring followed by training sequences in Amateur Radio Administration, Satellite Communications, Telehealth, Emergency Communications, and Internet Technology. The Internet Technology course will be conducted from November 12 to November 24, 2014.
The USTTI is still receiving applications for our third trimester courses and we encourage interested individuals to apply as soon as possible in order to be considered for acceptance.
The Hewlett-Packard Company's (HP) origins date back to 1939 when the partnership of William Hewlett and David Packard produced their first audio oscillator behind the doors of the garage seen in the background of the photo. Pictured in front are USTTI scholars from Bangladesh, Gambia, Ghana, Indonesia, Malawi, Nepal, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Thailand, and Zambia with HP's Manager of CMS Field Enablement, Ken Myers (front, far left), visiting the "Birthplace of Silicon Valley." A previous recipient of the USTTI's Chairman's Award, Ken continues to provide dedicated and relevant training at HP's world headquarters in Palo Alto, CA.
Twenty-one USTTI Scholars participated with representatives from the USTTI's Board of Directors in a comprehensive roundtable discussion addressing a wide variety of regulatory and privatization issues in the ICT sector. USTTI Board Member representatives from 21st Century Fox, Ericsson, the FCC, Intelsat, the Walt Disney Company, and Verizon joined the scholars in the roundtable discussion. Nineteen Scholars, including an unprecedented 11 females, from Ecuador, Ghana, Kiribati, Laos, Malawi, Mongolia, Mozambique, Nepal, Nigeria, Philippines, South Africa and Suriname wrapped up a two-day course on "Network Disaster Recovery and IP Network/Cyber Security for Senior Policy Makers." The group is pictured above at the AT&T Innovation Center with members of the AT&T training staff, including stalwart supporters of the USTTI, Marilyn Cade and Eric Loeb, Vice President of International External Affairs. In addition to volunteering as a pro-bono trainer, Eric also represents AT&T on the USTTI's Board of Directors.
2014 Plenipotentiary Conference Reception in Busan, South Korea
The USTTI will host an Alumni Reception during the 2014 ITU Plenipotentiary Conference in Busan, South Korea on October 28, 2014. The reception will be held in Hera Hall at the Haeundae Centum Hotel nearby the Busan Expo and Convention Center (BEXCO) from 12:30 pm to 2:30 PM. USTTI Alumni attending the Plenipotentiary Conference are invited to attend and should contact USTTI Executive Director Jim O'Connor regarding your participation in the conference.
